Our Impact

Supporting Families and Children Across Santa Clara County

A Community-Focused Impact on Kinship, Adoptive & Foster Families

Since its inception, the Kinship, Adoptive & Foster Parent Association (KAFPA) has stood as a trusted ally for caregivers and children navigating the challenges of foster care, adoption, and kinship placement. As the largest association of its kind in Santa Clara County, KAFPA serves as a central hub for support, advocacy, and practical assistance for families and youth throughout the community.

Through its Resource Center and clothing closet, KAFPA provides essential items and services that help families respond quickly when placements happen with little notice. In addition to material support, the organization offers educational opportunities, such as parenting workshops, CPR and first-aid training, and peer mentoring — strengthening caregiver confidence and competence.

Families supported by KAFPA experience a sense of belonging and tangible relief, knowing they are not alone in their caregiving journey. The association’s focus on dignity-centered support fosters resilience and stability for both caregivers and children alike.

Programs That Make a Real Difference

Impacting Lives Through Resources, Events, and Partnerships

KAFPA’s impact extends beyond basic resource distribution to include a broad range of programs designed to enrich family life and deepen community connections.

Youth & Family Programming: KAFPA coordinates youth-focused activities such as summer camps and enrichment activities, helping children explore new interests, build confidence, and engage with peers in positive environments. As the program coordinator for Santa Clara County’s SCEA initiative, KAFPA assists families with enrollment and support for camps and activities in areas like science, arts, sports, and more.

Resource Distribution: Through its clothing closet and partnerships with community organizations, KAFPA provides clothing, bicycles, diapers, toys, school supplies, and gift cards to children and families in need — bolstering caregiver capacity and reducing financial stress.

Collaborative Partnerships: KAFPA partners with organizations like Cakes 4 Kids, The Linus Project, and Care Portal to expand its reach and effectiveness. These collaborations ensure that families receive comprehensive support, from essential items for children to meaningful connections and broader community resources.

Together, these programs create a robust support ecosystem that enhances the well-being of caregivers and children, providing opportunities for growth, joy, and community belonging.

Strengthening Families for Today and Tomorrow

Measuring Impact and Sustaining Support

KAFPA’s impact is measured not only in goods delivered and events hosted, but in the long-term stability and well-being of families it serves. Over the years, KAFPA has:

  • Supported hundreds of kinship, adoptive, and foster families in Santa Clara County.
  • Served thousands of children and caregivers through resource distribution, programming, and events.
  • Partnered with local agencies such as the Department of Family and Children’s Services (DFCS), Ombudsman’s Office, and County Board of Supervisors to advocate for policies that benefit families and youth.

By maintaining strong collaborations and listening to the needs of caregivers, KAFPA continually refines its services — ensuring that support is responsive, relevant, and meaningful.

The association’s lasting impact lies in its ability to help families stay engaged and resilient. Every backpack assembled, every camp scholarship accessed, and every supportive event attended contributes to a stronger, more connected community where children can thrive and caregivers feel supported.
